# We have a firewall.

## Aren't we already protected?

Having a firewall is a critical part of your security posture. However, firewalls can have limitations which require supplemental support and more advanced prevention devices. Shield OnPremise sits behind the firewall. This protects the network from threats that slip through the firewall or originate inside the firewall.

Firewalls and next-gen firewalls are capable of blocking **well-known** bad sites based on signatures and inspection of packets. Where they fall short is the limited number of threat signatures available to them. Shield has a list of cyberwar and cybercrime sites aggregated over 25 years, based on our consulting relationships with DoD and other organizations faced with the world’s most challenging cyber attacks.
