# Is the main goal with Shield to just protect end users or a data center?

## Understanding Shield

- Our patented solution can provide visibility into the outbound activity of servers to see what they are calling out to. And protect any post-infection activity.
- In a high bandwidth datacenter, Shield's collection of network data is useful because it can aggregate and summarize vast amounts of network activity into small summary information that is useful for long retention.

Overall Shield can be used to observe and protect both data centers and end users; be it on premise or cloud by looking at the overall visibility of connections being made from external sources be it inbound or outbound.
